About Us

Shikshit Yuva Sewa Simithi

We work with aim of creating equal opportunities for people with disabilities. We have taken initiative for inclusive education for the visually impaired under the National Association for the Blind.

Shikshit Yuva Sewa Samiti (SYSS) was established in 1994 with the objective of creating equal opportunities for PwDs in district Basti, Uttar Pradesh. Since the establishment year, SYSS has provided community based rehabilitation and integrated education for the visually impaired in 6 blocks of Basti with the support of DANIDA under the guidance of NAB India Mumbai. SYSS is registered under the Society Registration Act 1860, the PwD Act 1995, and the and the National Trust Act 1999 for community based activities and other interventions. In 1999, SYSS successfully implemented an inclusive education program for CWSN under the Dist. Prima Education Program (SSA) in the districts of Basti and Siddharth Nagar (2 blocks of each district) and created a model for an inclusive education program. Presently, SYSS is running a daycare center for deaf, blind, and multi disabled children. We are teaching 40 visually impaired children under the National Association for the Blind (NAB) education program, as well as supporting 12 multi disabled children under home based teaching supported by NAB India through 4 trained teachers. Implementing a project "Making Modal Accessible School in Devipattan Mandal for Children with Disabilities" with a UNICEF partner until June 30, 2019. The major activities/achievements undertaken by SYSS during its journey from 1994: In 2000, initiation daycare center in Basti with the support of Sense International (India) for deaf blind Children. In 2002, initiation of preparatory school "Prayas Mook Badhir School" & Prayas Multiple/Mentally retarded school". In 2005 initiation of Multi media centre for the rural women including disabled in a village AGYA in Santkabir Nagar with the support of UNESCO. In 2006 initiation of Comprehensive Eye Care program & provide education to 52 VI children through 10 Laptops with the support of Sightsavers International. In 2007 Institution is nominated as Regional Learning Center with the support of Sense International (India) under European Union Project for rehabilitation of deafblind/MSI children. In 2007 initiation of National Program Control & Prevention of Deafness in Gorakhpur & Barabanki with the support of RCI & Central health minister. Study center of Care Givers course with the support of National Trust. In 2008 state level workshop "Summit of Mind" was organized with the support of RCI. Received award from UP State Govt., Rotary club & from other NGO etc as best institution. Wе have Received the National Award for Best Institution under empowerment of person with disabilities on 3rd December by the Hon. President of India for the year 2009.

Our Programs

Empowering Visually Impaired Youth: Entrepreneurship Development Training

The first batch of training program for 20 visually impaired youth, sponsored by Enable India, was conducted at SBI Rural Self Employment Training Institute (RSETI) in Basti. The initiative aimed to empower visually impaired individuals by providing them with entrepreneurship development training. Through this program, participants were equipped with essential skills and knowledge to embark on entrepreneurial ventures, fostering self-reliance and economic independence among the visually impaired community.

Integration of Alexa Technology in Disability Education: Empowering Visually Impaired Students

Under the Divya Kala Exhibition organized by the Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities, Uttar Pradesh, in Gorakhpur on 3 February 24, Educated Youth Seva Samiti Basti, in collaboration with NAB India, used Alexa device as part of the activities to educate the youth about the work being done for visually impaired children. The Honorable Chief Minister was informed by the special teachers of the Seva Samiti and other dignitaries present and visually impaired students were also given information about the use of Alexa.

Multiple Disability and Vision Impairment (MDVI) is our home based program where we have special educators trained in that area who goes to the underprivileged community and help those children and also guide the parents on how to take care of these kids.

Matdata Jagrukta Program is an awareness campaign conducted by the members to let the community know the importance of voting and the age limit from when they can start voting. Awareness programs were conducted in colleges.

The administration committee of the school took a great initiative of introducing modern equipment's, such as Alexa to the school children. This helps in techno based education and easy methods of learning.
